Dangerous dogs

It is against the law in Great Britain to possess certain types of dogs, and this cannot be altered even if the requirements of the Pet Travel Scheme are met. The dogs in question are:

  • Pit bull terriers
  • Japanese tosas
  • Dogo Argentinos
  • Fila Brazilieros

In the even that any of these are brought into Great Britain - whether or not under the Pet Travel Scheme ? they could be seized and destroyed. The person bringing in the dog could also be arrested, and be liable for conviction in a court, leading to imprisonment and/or a fine. Travellers are therefore strongly advised not to try to bring to Great Britain any dogs that could be regarded as a prohibited species. If in doubt, we advise that you do not travel with it.
